Education for refugee children is part of our emergency response to the humanitarian crisis in East Africa. With 86% of the estimated 1.4 million South Sudanese refugees being women and children, this crisis has been described as the ‘Children’s Crisis’. An entire generation of South Sudanese children are at risk of losing out on education which is vital if they are to rebuild their lives and escape poverty. HHA is working to support refugee-led school development and education projects, and we need your school’s help.
With teachers taking class under trees, and some attempting to teach 360 children on their own with no resources, it was clear we needed to fund new school buildings, teaching resources, and support for teachers.
With just £230 enough to provide blackboards and chalk for a primary school, even a single fundraising activity can have a big impact.
Partnering with HHA can involve any of the following:
- School twinning - we can provide a link between your school and one we help in Uganda allowing children and teachers to share experiences and build a relationship.
- Refugee simulations - We can facilitate UN developed refugee simulations tailored for children giving an insight into the life of a refugee child.
- Talks - A member of the HHA team can talk at an assembly sharing more about the work we do in East Africa to help refugees and how your school can make a difference.
